5 Ways to Be Kind to Your Mind

As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, WE’re sharing a few tips for living mindfully that you can practice every day to improve mental, physical, and emotional health.

Take a Minute to Meditate
WE know - meditation can be hard to get into, especially if you’re busy, stressed, tired, or anxious. But a consistent meditation practice has a ton of benefits for your overall wellness. Check out guided meditations from apps like Headspace or Calm, or go low-tech and meditate by focusing on your inhales and exhales for a few minutes.

Spend Time in Nature
Nature really is healing - and there’s science to prove it! Spending time outside improves emotional resilience, decreases depression, increases energy and boosts immunity. So whether it’s a camping trip, a walk in a local park, or a day at the beach - being in nature has a whole host of health benefits.

Eat with Intention
It can be tough to find time to really focus on your food, but it’ll help make your meals feel more satisfying. First, find a quiet place to eat, and take time to focus on each bite of food. Set specific times for meals so it’s part of your daily routine, and consider where your food came from to connect more deeply to it. Even if your day is packed with back-to-back meetings or endless errands, you’ll thank yourself for taking a distraction-free lunch.

Move Mindfully
It’s no secret that exercise is great for your physical, mental, and emotional health. The next time you’re working out, transform it into a meditative experience by setting an intention for your exercise, starting slowly and building up strength or speed, engaging all your senses, and taking time to reflect on how you feel when it’s over.

Set a Sleep Schedule
Getting good sleep is one of the most important aspects of overall health, but getting quality zzz’s doesn’t necessarily come easily. To improve your sleep, try to go to bed around the same time every night and stay off your screens when you’re in bed. During the day, getting good exercise, eating well, and avoiding caffeine late in the day are all helpful habits to making sure you have high-quality sleep.

Small changes to your daily routine can have a big impact on how you feel, so start by taking on one new habit, or tweaking an existing one, to help you live a more mindful and balanced life.
